You’ll not see nothing like ADRIAN CROWLEY’s mighty explorer James Quinn
IRELAND’s storyteller supreme ADRIAN CROWLEY and the collaborative artistry of Bring Your Own Hammer honour Irish adventurer James Quinn [aka Tim O’Brien] who left Belfast and journeyed across North and South America on today’s release ‘Quinn the Adventurer’ (via Bring Your Own Hammer/Dimple Discs).
Quinn was working in Hollywood in 1924 appearing in silent films alongside Charlie Chaplin when he was arrested on theft charges of a collection of Amazonian shrunken heads valued at $25,000. However, despite being convicted and sentenced to San Quentin State Prison, he skipped bail and eventually resurfaced in Panama, en route to Havana.
Today’s release previews upcoming Bring Your Own Hammer long-player ‘From the Tombs,’ dedicated to Cathal Coughlan (Microdisney, Fatima Mansions), one of Ireland’s most revered artists, who was also involved in the project.
Bring Your Own Hammer unites historical scholarship and contemporary composition, its work curated by Dr Richard McMahon, with support from Dr Niall Whelehan, along with several of Britain’s leading songwriters.
