Wham, bam, thank you Glam! GARY M*RX returns with stompfest album, ‘Green Ginger Jive’

AFTER a break of fifteen years, Sisters of Mercy co-founder GARY MARX has released his first new music, ‘Green Ginger Jive’ (via Wrecking Ball Sounds) a love letter of an album, dedicated to the areas of his youth, Hull and East Yorkshire.

Like many of the original punk generation, Marx was inspired and energised by the glam rock movement that stomped through the UK, unique artists including, The Sweet, David Bowie, T Rex, Suzi Quatro, and Slade.

And Marx has press-ganged a number of friends including Wayne Hussey, Miles Hunt, Daniel Mass from Leeds hipsters Salvation, and John Robb to help out on the new songs – all Marx originals.

“The vetting process was simple,” he said, “If they could spell ‘Slade,’ they were in. I wanted to do something joyous, that wasn’t afraid of being silly, I wanted to be fourteen again – fifty years after the event, but who’s counting!”

“This is the sequinned prequel to the story I’ve been asked to tell a thousand times. ‘A Glam Jamboree’ is perhaps the best way to describe the album. ‘Green Ginger Jive’ is one long love letter to my youth. It’s me dressing up and playing at being Mick Ronson. It’s the most fun I’ve ever had making a record, and I think it shows.”

With ‘Green Ginger Jive,’ Marx has cast aside the midnight black mantle, reaching instead for his glad rags to produce a joyous, Glam inspired collection of songs.
