“We are not beyond saving” Toronto’s STAN SIMON’s folk-tinged call to action
WITH gentle whispers of Townes Van Zandt, Nick Mulvey, and Leonard Cohen, Toronto-based STAN SIMON releases his raw, reflective EP, ‘Narrow Bridge’ (via Slammin’ Media).
Mixing contemporary folk, Americana, and country, ‘Narrow Bridge’ delivers themes of climate urgency, personal loss, and quiet resilience. The title track conveys a tone defiant and hopeful in equal measure, offering an invitation to ‘cross that narrow’ bridge towards awareness, and accountability.
“It’s a passionate environmental and social call to action,” said Simon. “I wanted to write something that captures both the anger and the hope I feel about what’s happening in the world. About how we treat nature, each other, and ourselves.
“We’re not beyond saving. The song is a reminder that renewal is possible, but only if we step into discomfort and choose to act. The EP is an invitation to disconnect from the noise and reconnect with the natural world, and with the deeper truths we all carry.”
‘Narrow Bridge’ also contains an intensely, personal moment, with the grief-heavy ballad ‘Long Way Past Gone’ written shortly before the passing of Simon’s father.
“This song took on new meaning after he died,” he adds. “It’s about feeling far beyond the point of return. There’s numbness, resignation, and the sense of being broken in ways that can’t be fixed. I wanted to paint a picture of someone who is emotionally disconnected from life, but also still reaching for meaning through the fog.”
And although the album was recorded before this period of personal upheaval, a decision was taken to delay its release.
“The album sat quietly for a while. Music didn’t matter to me in the same way for a bit. But as I started writing new material, I realized I couldn’t just leave this chapter behind, it needed to be shared.”
With contributions from collaborators Sebastian Shinwell and Max Trefler, Narrow Bridge was written and recorded with producer Dennis Patterson at Big Smoke Audio.
