“We are all memories across space and time” MAX AVOIDANCE drops delightful duo ‘Alone’ & ‘Lightyear’

MAX AVOIDANCE – the electro-pop project of producer Hari Limaye – unveils two new singles today ‘Alone,’ and ‘Lightyear,’ both pulled from next year’s EP.

Limaye once began med school while moonlighting as a score composer for the fashion industry, before venturing into music fulltime, and next year’s EP is the sound of him emerging through previous dark times into a new era, his latest project in equal measure psychedelic, glitchy, dark, and hopeful.

Today’s releases were recorded at his family home on the Gower peninsula in Wales and finished at Limaye’s London home studio.

“I was holed up in a house with no heating in the depths of winter with my friend Christian [OC Saint] in the middle of a storm,” he said. “The fuses for the lights had blown but we still had power. In the shadows of candlelight, the noises swirling and crashing around outside made it feel like the ghosts of iron-age village ancestors were encircling us. I think you can hear some of that in the songs.

“Being alone isn’t the same as being lonely, being centred in oneself isn’t the same as being self-centred. I used to love playing my parents’ record collection, The Cure, Magazine, Cocteau Twins, Joy Division, Siouxsie and the Banshees, I wanted to write something that was a homage to them with a 21st century take on those sounds and out came ‘Alone.’”

“And what if distance was a feeling? It would feel like ‘Lightyear.’ We are all memories across space and time, and like everything in the universe, we will return to cosmic dust and regenerate in a timeless cycle.”
