Vancouver Grit and the Best of Canadian Alt-Indie: The Get Arounds Are Going Out Tonight

August 20 2026

OUT of Vancouver’s gritty Downtown Eastside, alt indie, power-pop-punks THE GET AROUNDS unveil second album ‘Going Out Tonight’ a throwback to the glory days when albums were recorded with meaning, passion, urgency – today’s collection a thirteen song, thirty-eight-minute display of the very best of contemporary Canadian music.

“I think the new record is a little more focused on the songwriting,” explained guitarist Carman Lethbridge. “On the first record we didn’t really know what kind of band we were or where we wanted to take it. We were looking for a sound, and I think we found it on this one. The Get Arounds are a modern version of a classic radio rock band. We love great songs with choruses and big guitars and kick ass drums. Who doesn’t?”

The band came together during lockdown when Lethbridge began writing and recording with drummer Lana Ryma, the project quickly moving way beyond its initial home demo philosophy. The album a little rough around the edges? Perhaps. Does it matter? No, it merely adds to the joy of listening to a band at ease with themselves – and more importantly – their music.

“Going Out Tonight itself came together almost too easily,” adds Ryma. “It was one of those rare magic moments. The song took about thirty minutes to write. We even used the first vocal take. There are a few dissonant notes, but I loved how it sounded so we kept it.”
