The return of JONNY COUCH: Where the noir begins, and the Sidewalk Ends
WITH a Joe Jackson/Psychedelic Furs vibe, maverick US indie rocker JONNY COUCH previews first album in seven years with title track ‘Where The Sidewalk Ends’ released today via Damaged Sofa Music (BMI).
“The tune has a bit of a detective feel in the verse, but then turns into quite a dance number,” he said. “You can hear some ‘70s swirling disco synths on the track, mixed in with the more modern new wave production.
“But this single has everything to do with healing. It’s about the pain that eats away at us when a relationship is damaged. It’s also about desire – the desire to repair that broken bond and finally find a place of peace with someone you still love. But does that person share the same desire to mend old wounds?
“The process of forgiveness is always filled with tension because you never know whether the other person is willing to meet you halfway. You don’t know if they’ll make the same journey toward reconciliation. For me, that’s what getting to the end of the sidewalk means: reaching that place where healing becomes possible.”
A lifer on the New York and New Jersey music scene, former NYC rock drummer Couch headed for the solo route in 2016, his ‘Animal Instinct EP’ a mix of soul-pop and rock, 2019’s debut album ‘Mystery Man’ paving the way for appearances alongside The Fleshtones, Josie Cotton, The Nude Party, Paul Collins Beat, and The Plimsouls.
Today’s single was produced, engineered, and mixed by Jonas Wilson, and mastered and recorded at Mr. Pink Records, Bastrop, TX
