The pain of unlearning, the fire of self-discovery, the freedom of living unapologetically – new music from Nashville’s HEATHER MAE
NASHVILLE-based queer singer-songwriter HEATHER MAE today releases not one, but two albums, the alt-indie ‘WHAT THEY DID FROM ME,’ and the poptastic ‘kiss and tell,’ a groundbreaking project covering the pain of unlearning, the fire of self-discovery, the freedom of living unapologetically – and produced entirely by women and nonbinary music-makers in Nashville.
Released last year, breakout single ‘Kissing Girls’ [below] is both a bi-anthem and a love letter to LGBTQ+ folks who grew up in spaces where their queerness wasn’t an option.
‘WHAT THEY HID FROM ME’ was produced by ZDAN and features an all-female band including Grammy winner Allison Russell, and the powerhouse duo SistaStrings.
Co-produced by Mae and Nashville’s pop mastermind Lollies (Timbaland, Hayley Williams), the ‘kiss & tell’ album is an unbridled celebration of queer joy and unapologetic love, ‘Take it Slow’ dripping with a breathless R&B-infused sensuality, featuring a rap verse from ATL’s Yani B Fly.
Mae’s music is a proud – and welcome – fist in the air, a love letter to the misfits, a battle cry for those refusing to be erased.
