THE NEAR JAZZ EXPERIENCE showcase new album ‘Tritone’ – and it’s all gloriously swinging, smoky, sexy and sleazy
COMPRISING Mark Bedford from Madness, and Simon Charterton and Terry Edwards of The Higsons, THE NEAR JAZZ EXPERIENCE today unveil new album ‘Tritone’ (via Peckham-based Dimple Discs) along with focus track, ‘Tuba Cop.’
With influences swinging a diverse trajectory including Miles Davis, Soft Machine, Alice Coltrane, Ian Dury and The Blockheads, The Near Jazz Experience deliver plenty for everyone to savour. World music played on jazz instruments. Bassist Bedford and drummer Charterton the rhythm section, Edwards shifting seamlessly between multiple instruments, sax – two at once – trumpet, melodica and flute. ‘Tuba Cop’ hinting not only of Magazine and Kraftwerk, but also the ideal atmospheric, cinematic accompaniment to a hazy, lazy, sleazy, swinging ‘60s London.
On ‘Tritone’ the trio are joined by keyboardist Mike Garson of David Bowie fame, and fellow keyboardist Matt Johnson of Jamiroquai. In addition, Oliver Cherer (Miki Berenyi Trio, Aircooled, Gilroy Mere, Dollboy) brings the synth, while Paul Cuddeford (Ian Hunter, Boomtown Rats, Bob Geldof, Tony Visconti) contributes guitars on ‘Funky Kino.’
