The future sound of Liverpool – BRIDES lift the veil on new single ‘Creature Culture’

BRIDES, the bright new sound of Merseyside release debut EP ‘Leche,’ and lead single, ‘Creature Culture.’

Based out of Liverpool, the four-piece fully deserve the plaudits heading their way with the band to be lauded for seeking to promote their own sound, rather than develop into yet another identikit Mersey Beat jangle pop outfit.

“I don’t think we’ve tried to distinguish ourselves from specifically Liverpool bands, but having worked as backing musicians for other Liverpool groups in the past we were keen to try out some different, louder, stranger sounds,” said Joe Royal [vocs/rhythm guitar]. “We try to listen to as much music as possible from as many different places as possible, in the hope the influences blend together and make something fun and new.

“We’ve got quite a varied mix of inspirations between the four of us and I think that’s what helps make our sound a bit unique. I’ve always been into Midwestern Emo – Marietta, Mom Jeans – and Shoegaze, My Bloody Valentine, and Brian Jonestown Massacre, and I think that’s had a huge impact on how both busy and driven our guitar sounds are.

“Haysey [Alex Hayes, lead guitar] has always been huge into Radiohead, and The Strokes, and I think you can see a lot of that Jonny Greenwood power in his playing. Cosa [Secosa Connah, bass guitar] and I enjoy a lot of J-Rock and Mathrock and try to take a lot of those ideas about changing tempo and time signature into our songs. James [Parker, drums] has liked anything loud, Sex Pistols, The Clash, Ramones, anything heavy and punk, which you can definitely hear on the record.”

’Creature Culture’ is the first track on our debut EP. While me and Haysey have been writing the songs since 2023, we’ve only been active as a band since January, so the response we’ve so far has been beyond our expectations.

“The EP is loosely based on several characters from our real lives, ones that frustrated and confused us – not always for the worse. I think the themes of desperation and longing are heavily present on the album, though dealt with through violent noises and shouting rather than melancholic pining. It was also great fun to really mess around with the structure and arrangements to see what odd sounds we could get; most of the distortion layers in our track ‘Common Inferno’ are just Haysey yelling into his guitar pickups while in open tuning!”

The band celebrate the EP’s release with a Liverpool headline show on Saturday (13th) with further gigs in Manchester, Sheffield and London, and a follow up EP due to be announced soon.
