THE DOGMATICS – Forever Boston strong
BOSTON’s finest garage icons THE DOGMATICS celebrate the dawning of a new era with today’s release of ‘Nowheresville,’ their first album in almost four decades.
The ten-track long player celebrates family, friendship, and fun, with guest appearances from Tom Baker, Nervous Eaters’ Billy Loosigian, and John ‘J.G.’ Goetchius of The Mighty Mighty Bosstones.
“We have evolved from the band we once were based on our life experiences, and the experience you get from playing together for so long, said Jerry Lehane (guitar/vocs). We feel so grateful that we have the opportunity to release a new album.”
Formed in 1981 The Dogmatics soon developed a loyal fanbase hooked on their pioneering garage rock sound, laced with elements of rockabilly and punk, and quickly found themselves touring with the The Bangles, The Fleshtones, The Replacements, and Beastie Boys, with The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Letters to Cleo later covering their songs.
But after the tragic loss in 1986 of founding member and bassist Paul O’Halloran, the band disbanded, occasionally regrouping for charity events. In 2023 film director Rudy Childs – in collaboration with band archivist and O’Halloran family niece Jada Maxwell – completed a four-year documentary in tribute to Paul. The resulting full-length film ‘The Dogmatics: A Dogumentary (They Were Boston’s House Band)’ was widely released earlier this year.
“The ten songs on the new album show a lot of variety and breadth beyond the classic garage-rocking reputation,” added James Young (mandolin/vocs). “As a new-ish member to the band who started as a fan, it’s great to see the feedback about the band making new music that’s relevant today and not just being a reunion act. I’ve always had so much respect for the individual band members as musicians, it’s a pleasure and privilege to be part of demonstrating the flex of those skills.”
