THE COURETTES expose their souls on Motown, Spector, garage rock, magnificent new album
OUT now from Danish-Brazilian duo THE COURETTES, their fourth – and by far the best – album to date, ‘THE SOUL OF…The Fabulous Courettes,’ available via Damaged Goods Records.
The combined talents of Flavia and Martin Couri produce the magnificent musical witchcraft, hitting the sweet spot between garage rock, girl groups, doo-wop harmonies, and more than a fair share of heartache, which reveals a darker undercurrent behind some of the songs.
“Because I’m the one most responsible for the lyrics, I actually allowed myself to open up to some personal things, and so that means that our souls are in the album both musically and also lyrically,” said singer and guitarist, Flavia.
The new recordings draw inspiration from many of the duo’s idols that have only previously been hinted at. Their love of the Spector Wall Of Sound and Motown shines bright throughout, there’s welcome hints of The Chi-Lites, Kersaal Flyers, The Velvelettes, The Supremes, with the album also boasting an appearance from La La Brookes of The Crystals who guests on Run Run Runaway.
Also featured on the album are Soren Christensen (backing vocals, organ, mellotron), and Peter Kehl and Kasper Wagner (horns).
