THE CITY CHAMPS: Best of Memphis

MEMPHIS supergroup THE CITY CHAMPS are MusicLoveMusic’s third inductees into the ‘Best Of Memphis’ Hall of Fame.

Evolving out of four-piece The Grip in 2007, the band comprises three of Bluff City’s finest musicians – Al Gamble (organ), George Sluppick (drums), and Joe Restivo (guitar).

With killer, swaggeralicious hooks, and a genuine, gritty Memphis vibe, their Isaac Hayes, Booker T, jazz and soul-tinged debut ‘The Safecracker’ awarded them instant legend status at home and abroad.

The band have since gone on to perform with Rufus Thomas, William Bell, and Alex Chilton, and joined The North Mississippi Allstars on a US tour.
