SONG OF THE WEEK: Molly Vulpyne – ‘Amortise’ EP
MOLLY VULPYNE – vocalist and guitarist with punk outfit Vulpynes – today unveils her inaugural solo endeavour, the four-track ‘Amortise’ EP, via FOAD Musick.
“This as an experiment I miraculously achieved without overthinking, one that feels truly authentic,” she said.
The featured songs were penned over the past few years, and tired of being pigeonholed as the ‘punk princess,’ reflect a different side of Vulpyne in stark contrast to previous musical projects. The new tunes feature poignant, unfiltered lyrics referencing love and the darkness of the mind, and the embracing of newfound vulnerability.
“The whole EP is lyrically more vulnerable and honest than anything I’ve ever written,” she added. “A lot of the phrasing is quite succinct and to the point, nothing dressed up in metaphors or bows. It’s simply whatever way I was thinking or feeling at the time.
“’Dead In The Water’ is a tongue-in-cheek track about feeling repulsed by your inability to stand up for yourself. It’s watching yourself act like an idiot in the third person but finding it impossible to stop!”
Meryl Streek takes charge of the drums and beats, bass duties are handled by Tony Carberry, known for his work with the Lee Harveys, while ‘Dead in the Water’ features Peter Jones from Paranoid Visions.
Catch Molly Vulpyne live when she opens for Johnny Moped at Dublin’s ‘The Grand Social’ on 25th October.
