SINGLE OF THE WEEK: HANS DEVILLE feat. Aisha Khan – ‘A Solemn Man (King Prawn cover)’

KING PRAWN guitarist HANS DEVILLE follows up 2022’s ‘Prophecies Revisited’ EP with the James Bond theme tune in waiting, ‘A Solemn Man,’ which also features London’s jazz singer extraordinaire, AISHA KHAN.

“When [Property of the Lost] label boss Karl suggested a Hans Deville version of the King Prawn song ‘A Solemn Man’, I was only too happy to oblige,” said Deville.

“It seemed a nice way to start introducing the second album, and maybe bring some KP fans along for the ride.  We dropped the pitch and tempo to suit Aisha’s vocals and create a ‘loungy’ feel. Drummer ‘Ogs’ laid down a hypnotic beat, Mark J. Lee added a laid-back bass line, then Aisha nailed it in a couple of takes with her silky yet powerful vocal, reminiscent of Shirley Bassey in her Bond theme era glory.”

‘A Solemn Man’ is the first taste of Deville’s second album due 2025, featuring Peter & The Test Tube Babies and current Frank From Blue Velvet drummer Mark Starr-Hoggins, and Longshore Drifters frontman Mark J Lee, on bass.

The new single is a song of whistle blowing, speaking truth to power and breaking the line at great personal risk, and is released as part of the POTL Bendy 7″ series, and limited to 30 lathed discs.
