OSWALD SLAIN’s ‘Sean Paul’ – definitely not a classic loser song…

AHEAD of April 16’s debut EP ‘Kiss Me On The Mouth’ release, Bristol’s rockers OSWALD SLAIN today unveil new single, ‘Sean Paul.’

“The song is a nostalgic confrontation of personal flaws and failures, dressed up in a pretty little surf rock smock and a happy-go-lucky pair of shiny loafers,” said vocalist and guitarist, Charlie Fitzgerald. “I was trying to write a classic ‘loser song,’ but it ended up all fun and silly and brought a great sense of humour to something that can haunt me from time to time.”

Produced in-house by the band at their DIY home studio and mastered at ‘Loud Mastering’ by Jason Mitchell (PJ Harvey, XTC, Big Special), ‘Kiss Me On The Mouth’ explores personal flaws, failures, self-acceptance and imposter syndrome.

“We spent a couple of weeks in 2024 writing and recording loads of tunes,” adds Fitgerald. “Every day I’d get up and write a couple of ideas and some lyrics, then we’d work together to orchestrate it, finishing the song together and tracking everything there and then. It was all pretty quick, and it was a great way to make music because everything was pretty much written and recorded on the same day. We ended up with around 18 tunes.

“The EP was made up of all of the fun little bangers that we loved but couldn’t fit into what we wanted for a future album, which is a very exciting and different beast entirely. A lot of the EP lyric-wise comes from dealing with constant imposter syndrome and confidence loss. It’s important to go through change as a person but also nice to make it into a positive thing that can be fun and joyful. I was lucky enough to have people around me at the time who were keen to make this music and for that I’ll be forever grateful.”

OSWALD SLAIN, with their eccentric mix of classic Americana and the timeless vibes of Neil Young and The Band, will promote their new EP with a series of live dates beginning April 17 at Trillians, Newcastle.
