Ontario’s THE MERINGUES: Anything but a Shambles
OUT OF Kingston, Ontario, post-punk dynamos THE MERINGUES have released details of September’s ‘Pavlova’s Dog’ album, along with new advance single and video, ‘Shambles.’
The mixed gender quartet seamlessly serve up a healthy dose of Pixies, Weezer, The Strokes and even some XTC, with ‘Shambles’ resembling a roughly cut diamond, polished, yet raw, capturing the intensity and emotional turmoil ‘The Meringues’ are known for.
“The song is about a relationship or conversation in crisis, where communication has broken down,” said singer, Ted Evans. “The argument escalates as both parties misinterpret each other’s words, fuelling hurt and anger. Past grievances are dredged up, further derailing the conversation. The argument spirals out of control, leaving both parties too exhausted and angry to seek a resolution.”
At the heart of The Meringues are Evans, and Amanda Pants, joined onstage by Jackson Baird (bass) and Alastair Morrison (drums).
‘Shambles’ is culled from their sophomore album, Pavlova’s Dog, released September 16, an album that continues to explore the intersection of fun and dysfunction. Spanning from deep psychological themes to playful, child-like perspectives, the album features eleven tracks with catchy melodies and sharp, poignant lyrics, capturing the complexity of human relationships and the dark undercurrents of self-doubt and personal struggle.
