New York songstress JESSIE KILGUSS pays tribute to sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini in breathtaking new single, ‘St. Teresa in Ecstasy’

NEW YORK-based singer-songwriter JESSIE KILGUSS today lifts the veil on her ecclesiastical exploration of one of Gian Lorenzo Bernini’s works of art, with latest single, the spiritual ‘St. Teresa in Ecstasy.’

“The story of this song is really in the lyrics,” she said. “I was visiting a friend in Rome and two different friends highly recommended I go see the sculpture ‘The Ecstasy of St Teresa’ by Gian Lorenzo Bernini in the Cornaro Chapel of Santa Maria della Vittoria.

“I had a transcendent experience looking at this piece of art which I think I express better through song rather than just speaking or writing about it. Art – of all disciplines – has the ability to transport us to other places or states of being. The song is about experiencing the magic of this specific sculpture and maybe in a greater sense, the magic of being transported by something that feels bigger and more important than the everyday, something that feels otherworldly and divine.”

Today’s release features drummer-percussionist Rob Heath (Madison Square Gardeners, Julia Nunes), guitarist-keyboardist Kirk Schoenherr (Tegan and Sara, Elle King, Chet Faker), guitarist Andrea Longato (Duncan Shiek, Jeremy Jordan, Alphonso Ribeiro), with Charlie Nieland on bass, violin bow guitar and keys.

The Ecstasy of St Teresa’ is the second single from upcoming album ‘They Have A Howard Johnson’s There’ due November 14, and engineered, produced, mixed, and mastered by Nieland (Debbie Harry, Rufus Wainwright, Blondie).

Kilguss made songwriting her focus having worked with musical heroes Marianne Faithfull and Mary Margaret O’Hara in the Tom Waits/William Burroughs musical, ‘The Black Rider.’
