MV WELLS mixes dreamy indie rock & orchestral pop on debut solo album ‘Le Dauphin’

June 4 2026

CHICAGO songwriter MV WELLS delivers debut solo album ‘Le Dauphin,’ a dreamy mix of indie rock and orchestral pop with more than a metaphorical doffing of the glittery cap towards ELO, John Lennon, Nick Lowe and The Beach Boys.

A stalwart of city’s indie circuit – from the manic hooks of NE-HI to the synth sounds of Spun Out – ‘Le Dauphin’ is built on perfect pop melodies of yesteryear, and an occasional diversion towards somewhat weirder instincts, with the album’s artwork heading in the same direction, supplied by Paul Whitehead, known for his work with early Genesis.

‘Le Dauphin’ was recorded in Chicago at Palisade, and The Mango Pit with longtime collaborator and cousin Joshua Wells (Black Mountain, Destroyer) and also features Joshua Wells (drums/percussion), Olivia Love (violin), Benjamin Kalb (cello), and Joe Lill (trumpet/flugelhorn).
