Music From Adversity: LOUDHAILER Unveil ‘View From Ward 6’

August 7 2026

LOUDHAILER, the psych folk, acid rock project fronted by former Red Guitars bassist Lou Duffy-Howard unveil new track and video, ‘View From Ward 6.’

“It’s been a strange time here recently,” said Duffy-Howard. “Unusually for me, some poor health came my way, and I had a couple of spells in hospital and some emergency surgery. I’ve had to take it easy and postpone this year’s Loudhailer gigs; however, I can carry on recording. Being in hospital was not something I knew much about until now, but ‘View From Ward 6’ is a result of that experience.

“I was full of morphine prior to the first surgery, so it was all hazy, but when I came round afterwards on a busy ward I took stock of where I was. I was right next to a window, high up. I looked out of the window and watched as the world went by. Waiting for mornings, I took some videos of the night turning into day. The words were a stream of consciousness account of what it was like. When I got home I recorded the track and edited the video.

“I was nervous about publishing it, as it is such a personal story. I recorded it – including Rich [Richard Duffy-Howard] playing guitar – with the words muted, so no one had heard it. When it was done, I played the track to Rich thinking it might not be for public consumption, but he loved it, and I was pleased that a friend who had spent some time there said it caught the atmosphere and was spot on.”

“Rich and I are currently working on more new Loudhailer music and are looking forward to coming back with rescheduled live shows next year. The band is the two of us, so we can play as a two piece, but often with our youngest son Dexter on violin, and Mark Hurton on drums/percussion.”
