MONKyMAN honours Namibian childhood with joyful afro rhythm vibe ‘Hambelela’ feat. Vaudeni
BERLIN-based electro virtuoso MONKyMAN (Markus Spitta) announces release of his upcoming ‘What About Love’ album (via Laut & Luise) along with focus track, ‘Hambelela’ feat. Vaudeni.
“When making this album I realized that I am just one link in a chain of creations that led to this record being birthed,” he said. “So many inventions, jobs, tools, processes happen before I can even play a note on a synth. I am so grateful for all the inspiration and equipment available to me in order to make my music. My music has been created by all of us and will forever be there for all of us.”
An exposure to the sights, smells, and sounds of an early life spent in Namibia, The Land of the Brave, clearly left its mark on his music, ‘Hambelela’ benefitting from a vocal refrain in the Oshiwambo language, a masterly addition to the overall soulful, atmospheric, jazzy, afro rhythm-inflected vibe.
Drawing inspiration from artists including André 3000, Frank Ocean, Sun Ra, Quincy Jones, and Nina Simone, he has also appeared alongside Biig Piig, Bombay Bicycle Club, Monolink, and K.I.Z.
