London opener for SOLAR EYES ‘Live Freaky! Die Freaky!’ tour
IN support of current Doors, Ennio Morricone, Quentin Tarrantino, and even Charles Manson tinged ‘Live Freaky! Die Freaky!’ album (Fierce Panda Records) SOLAR EYES embark on a UK – and Paris – October tour this week.
And to celebrate, the band today release a further track from the long player, ‘I See The Sun.’
“So, this is an old song that set me on the journey of writing this album,” explained vocalist and guitarist Glenn Smyth. “It started as a love letter to my daughter. Working out we’re in this together until my end. But Jeff Knowler, our mixer, heard it as a rough demo and was like ‘You should record that’ – after watching ‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.’ I love Tarantino, so then it went from there. I became obsessed with Manson and the book ‘Chaos.’ Then this whole album came on the back of that.
“As it goes, I read that book, because Tarantino suggested it when asked about how he wrote the film. I guess the song taps into the spaghetti western, dusty vibe, but a song I’m very proud of.”
Recorded at Courtyard Studio in Oxfordshire (Radiohead, Supergrass, Band of Skulls), the album sees Solar Eyes take the Spaghetti Junction western vibes of their debut, and mix in some darker, broader, bleaker shades.
