Lo and Behold – THE JOEL AFFAIR unveil Jeff Tweedy inspired EP

May 20 2026

THE JOEL AFFAIR – the solo recording project of Ontario singer-songwriter Joel Phair – teases June’s ‘Low and Behold’ EP with today’s unveiling of title track and official video.

“I’ve come to realize that songs can just be that – songs,” he said. “I have spent a lot of time not completing songs because I thought that every aspect of every second had to feel and be as epic as possible, but that’s not serving the song. I’ve kind of evolved to the point where my soul is satisfied that I have done what it takes to finish my work and offer it to the public.”

“I write songs, sometimes about flash thoughts, sometimes about life themes, but always about something that I have experienced and or have seen through my eyes and thoughts,” adds Phair.

And Phair also found time to praise one of his major influences, Jeff Tweedy. “I have read and listened to many interviews with Tweedy and the thing that has stuck with me is a podcast where he was taking questions from listeners and one of the questions was ‘What advice do you give to aspiring artists?’ Jeff’s answer was, ‘Stop aspiring. Be the artist you want to be, you don’t need permission to be an artist, you don’t have to wait for someone or something to say you are, just create.’ That made me think, yeah you’re right! What is anyone waiting for?

The Lo & Behold EP was co-produced with James McKenty (Blue Rodeo, Terra Lightfoot, Cuff The Duke) with Phair performing drums, rhythm guitar and keyboards, McKenty adding lead guitar, additional keys and string arrangements, Nathan Traux tracking the majority of the bass parts.
