LIMA’s E.T.C. facing the demons on latest single ‘Tuyo’

OUT of Peru’s Ciudad de los Reyes, alt-rock grunge crossover trio E.T.C. unveil latest single Tuyo, via L’islet Records, a song about finding, confronting, and living with your inner demons.

Formed in 1999 with Diego Diez Canseco (guitar/vocs), Carlos Doig Peñaherrera (drums), and Eduardo Doig Peñaherrera (bass) the band have opened for Stone Temple Pilots and Bush during their respective South American tours.

“The scene in Peru keeps growing,” said Carlos, “but the music industry – especially for rock – is still developing. Genres like cumbia or salsa have much bigger structures and audiences. In alternative rock there aren’t that many labels, managers, venues, or media outlets helping bands expand their reach, so interestingly our biggest audiences today are actually in the U.S. and Mexico. Also, the industry tends to move within tight circles, so the bands playing major festivals or large stages are often the same ones, with only a few new acts breaking through.”

And speaking of the South American alt-rock scene and their own early influences, Carlos adds, “If we’re talking about the bands that shaped us, most of our influences come from the global alternative scene – bands like Nirvana, Silverchair, Bush, and Rage Against the Machine. Even today we keep following artists like Deftones, Chevelle, Tool, and Queens of the Stone Age, who are still putting out great music after all these years.

“But locally, we’d definitely mention bands like Liken. They’re not active anymore, but we spent a big part of our twenties playing shows together and trying to build a grunge scene in Lima. From the newer generation, we really like bands like Mindstuck, Inyección Híbrida, Lesión, Fuzzter, and Cápula.”
