KRUG’s back, with his Rat, for a SUNSET RUBDOWN
CANADA’s indie, art rockers SUNSET RUBDOWN have broken a fifteen-year hiatus with new song and video, ‘Reappearing Rat,’ released ahead of their ‘Always Happy To Explode’ album, due September 20 via band leader Spencer Krug’s own label, ‘Pronounced Kroog.’
The new song is an upbeat, acoustic guitar-driven sonnet to the tiny monster that resides in our heads – the one that makes itself known anytime blessings such as serenity, clarity, or acceptance begin to form on our emotional horizons.
“A kind of irresponsible and lazy surrender to the notion that we’re all just stuck with ourselves, this song is for those times you think, ‘Why won’t that person just leave?’ only to realize you’re referring to yourself. For better or worse, we live in our brains. Apparently so does the rat,” said Krug.
Krug began Sunset Rubdown as a solo project for his low-fi recordings twenty years ago, with the band playing their final show in Tokyo in 2009. However, after more than a decade apart, Krug reunited the band and with new bassist Nicholas Merz, recorded the latest album, which will be supported by October’s North American tour.
‘Always Happy To Explode’ features Krug on acoustic guitar and vocals, Camilla Wynne (keyboard/Omnichord/vocals), Merz, and Jordan Robson-Cramer (drums).
