Jessie Reid returns with indie-folk heartbreaker
SHROPSHIRE-based chanteuse JESSIE REID returns today with ‘Let Your Love Run Cold,’ a trademark upbeat, yet intimate, indie-folk reflection on an unforeseen heartbreak.
Never shy of embracing life’s challenges in her lyrics, the new song sees Jessie questioning the breakdown of an intimate relationship, confused by the false hope of reconciliation, but striving to emerge stronger on the other side.
“I wanted to write some haunting lyrics painting a picture of lost love, or a detachment in a relationship,” she said. “It’s not necessarily a romantic loss, but equally relevant to the breakdown of communication with someone you were once really close to.
“When our heart feels broken, our head repeatedly asks ‘why, how, when?’ That sudden shift from intimacy to estrangement seems inexplicable and begs the question, ‘when did you let your love run cold?’ Introspective? Yes but, ultimately, this is a song of positivity and reflection, learning to deal with the tough times and come out stronger.
“The new year has started kindly for me with a couple of lovely ‘Sofar Sounds’ shows, and some great feedback from BBC Radio about the new single. My next London gig is on February 1st and a follow-up to ‘Let Your Love Run Cold’ is already recorded, as I build up to my new EP release in the autumn.”
With previous singles racking up over six million streams, support on BBC 6 Music from the likes of Chris Hawkins and Tom Robinson, and a regional BBC Introducing Artist of the Year accolade, Jessie’s 2023 highlights included long-term fixtures in Spotify’s coveted Most Beautiful Songs in the World playlist and sync placements on Made In Chelsea (Channel 4), and Love Island (ITV).
