‘Izzatso?’ Nashville influence on new multi-genre WITCHDOKTORS album
LONDON’s punk & roll stalwarts WitchDoktors release album number six today, ‘Izzatso?’ via Bomber Music.
Having previously shared stages with the likes of Steve Marriot, Dr Feelgood, The Damned, PIL, Ruts DC, their live reputation earned them a staggering six-year residency at London’s fabled 12 Bar Club.
The eleven-track ‘Izzatso?’ tears through the genres in machine gun style, punk, glam, trash, Americana and the glorious Joe Strummer ‘Get Down Moses’ inspired ‘Freedom Fighter.’
And speaking of previous single, ‘Before The War,’ frontman Andy Last said, “It’s a Post Covid PTSD hitting home like the scarred and broken minds of a victim of ‘active service.’
“The masses subjected to ‘the beast’ created by the few. Cannon fodder all over again. Death and destruction without a thought for the individual. Will we ever learn? Sign-up, serve up, mission completed, contract terminated and now it’s someone else’s problem. here’s your plastic medal and a shoe box to live in. Whatever happened to the sparkle in those beautiful eyes?”
Work began on the album during the Covid lockdowns but was delayed by the passing of longtime collaborator and recording engineer Pat Collier, his rough mixes handed over to producer Tim Palmer at Austin’s ’62 Studios.
Along with more recent recordings made with Grant Strang at Silver Shark Studios, South London, the band forged a new relationship with Sterling Sound in Nashville TN, utilising the mastering skills of Justin Shturtz.
Joining Last in the band are Tony Major (guitar/vocs), Joe Colfar (drums/vocs), and Lee Page (bass/vocs).
