“It’s about keeping hope when times get tough” VICTORIA DOWDY unveils introspective ‘Cling’

February 13 2026

MEMPHIS singer/songwriter VICTORIA DOWDY today releases the self-penned, introspective ‘Cling.’

“The overall idea of the song is that sometimes we experience disappointment based on others’ expectations placed on us, whether that is from society, parents, work, school, or partners,” she said. “It’s also about keeping hope when times get tough and things don’t go according to plan.”

“However, it is our choice to push through with hope and decide our own fate. ‘Cling’ reflects that in the melancholy yet sweet melody that eventually has a satisfying resolution. The song was originally recorded as a demo with Ari Morris and then mixed and mastered by Matt Qualls who also played the steel guitar which brings the song together giving it a longing and aching feeling, but also adding to the resolution at the end.”

(‘Cling’ performed at ‘Writers in the Round’ Memphis, September 2025)
