“If I can emotionally dance around things, it feels like I can be more honest singing it.” Patty Griffin returns with ‘Back at the Start’

QUINTESSENTIAL Americana legend PATTY GRIFFIN announces first album in six years ‘Crown of Roses’ (via PGM Recordings Label/Thirty Tigers) and celebrates by today releasing lead single, ‘Back At The Start.’

The two-time Grammy Award-winner chronicles love, death, heartache, joy, connection and detachment on her latest long-player which was initially written during the pandemic, scrapped, and then reclaimed.

“I returned to ‘Back At The Start’ because I like that first line, There’s secrets I don’t tell ever to myself – I just keep moving..” she said. “Part of it is about getting on with it, but part is also about staying stuck and going through the motions. It’s really a constant thing to try to be alive while you’re alive. If I try to hit things on the nose, they don’t feel authentic to me. If I can emotionally dance around things, it feels like I can be more honest singing it.”

Produced by longtime collaborator Craig Ross and featuring musical contributions from David Pulkingham (guitar) and Michael Longoria (drums), the album floats from sparse folk to delicate Americana to sly, gospel blues evoking the scrubby west of Griffin’s adopted Texas, along with the calmness of her home state, Maine.
