Heaven is a place in Pittsburgh – Lowsunday getting closer to new EP release
PITTSBURGH’s cult post-punk shoegaze legends LOWSUNDAY present ‘This Is Not Heaven’ previewing new ‘Black EP’ out May 15th via Projekt Records – a magnificent sound of heartbreak buzzsaw guitar and deep, dirty rhythm, positioning itself at the point where Joy Division and The Cure intersect on darkwave’s Venn diagram.
Following over two-decades of inactivity, Lowsunday – originally Low Sunday Ghost Machine – resurfaced as a duo in 2025 lining up with original members Shane Sahene (vocs/guitar/synth/bass/drums) and Bobby Spell (bass/guitar/drums).
“‘This is Not Heaven’ was the last song we recorded for the ‘Black EP,’ said Sahene. “We really enjoyed injecting the heavy synths on the chorus, the asymmetrical guitar leads and the driving bass line beneath an intricate and melodic rhythm guitar.
“We felt this song captured everything we are about in that it hits the refrains with a shoegaze atmosphere, more electronic choruses and lyrical transparency, much less vague than many of our songs – it touches on many aspects of our sound.”
“This was another really enjoyable song to write,” added Spell. “The guitar textures and melody lines create a dark song with uplifting sections. The mood shifts in the choruses giving a feeling of brightness or a way out of melancholy.”
Recorded, mixed, mastered and produced by Sahene and Spell, ‘Low Sunday Ghost Machine – Black EP’ receives its digital release May 15.
