FLORAL IMAGE ‘Gone Down Meadowland,’ perfect, pop-soaked psychedelia

VIA Fuzz Club Records (King Gizzard, The Men, Jesus and Mary Chain), FLORAL IMAGE today unveil ‘Gone Down Meadowland,’ the debut album from the Norwich psych cadets.

The brief was straightforward – to produce a brand of East-Coast, pop-soaked psychedelia that reflected the natural lusciousness and glorious solitude of the world around them. And they have delivered with aplomb.

“Once the current line-up found its feet as a live ensemble, we realised how well we could arrange different melodies over bass and drums that jus‘run’n’gun’ for the finish line,” said vocalist and guitarist, Fergus Nolan. “It was written to be like the older, more sophisticated brother of Gallipoli.

Over 30 songs were conjured, considered, and arranged before the band settled on the albums final ten, a glorious selection epitomising what Floral Image do best – music of vivid hue, harnessed live power, held together with fluid, lyrical harmonies.

“Barns, basements and box rooms across Norfolk were all utilised to unearth the songs from the soil of our collective minds,” added Nolan. “We practically lived with each other and buried ourselves in the music for what was almost a whole half year. We would cook for each other, learn from each other, and laugh like we never could elsewhere. Even that tricky period of cutting songs off went by with all of us in complete faith that the album’s needs seemed greater than our own. If it wasn’t for the fact that recording had almost become secondary to getting actually quite good at Frisbee, we might have been able to release a double LP.”

Joining Nolan in the band are, Jack Warner (vocs/keys), Matt Kennedy (bass), Mitch Forsyth (drums/visuals), and Phil Whitton (guitars/visuals).

Produced by the Floral Image, mixed by Hugh Fothergill of Volleyball, ‘Gone Down Meadowland’ was mastered by Joseph Carra at Crystal Mastering (KGLW).
