FLAIR’s ‘CITY LIGHTS’ offers glimpse of huge potential for Glasgow five-piece

GLASGOW five-piece FLAIR unveil the assured, mature ‘City Lights,’ (Revo Pro Records), their sixth single and one which belies their current rock and roll newcomers status.

Formed in 2023, the band Tony Collum (vocs), Louis Collum (lead/rhythm guitar), Johnnie Wilke (bass), Jamie Hamil (lead guitar), and Callum McArthur (drums), have already performed home-town sell-out headline shows, opened for Blue Violet at King Tuts, and Minella Times at Newcastle’s The Globe.

“We’ve always had that softer, dreamier layer, but unless you’ve been to our shows you wouldn’t have seen that side of us yet,” said Collum. “With our previous releases we’ve shown a heavier and darker side to our music, but with ‘City Lights’ we’ve really leaned into our softer, fast-paced element.

“The song was the result of a late-night writing session between Johnnie and Tony when they got together to combine some music and lyrics they had written independently. Once it was fleshed out by the rest of the band we instantly knew we had a great tune.

“The EP has a lot of emotional ups and downs – ‘City Lights’ kind of sits in the middle of that. It bridges the heavier moments with a gentler touch, while still offering its own kind of subtle chaos. We want to explore every possible avenue when we write. We love those contrasts. There’s beauty in the sadness, and pain in the ecstasy. We’re not afraid to explore both sides of the spectrum.

“The main thing I hope people can take away from this song is that, in the midst of chaos, there’s always that place, whether that’s mental or physical, that offers you a moment of stillness.”
