‘DREAM EYES: Strength Through Adversity
PROVING the old adage true that strength can indeed emerge from adversity, West Limerick’s Tadhg Collins – recording under the guise of ‘Dream Eyes’ – has just released a contender for the ‘chill-out electronica’ track of the year.
However, if he hadn’t sustained life-altering injuries which left him questioning his ability to continue to pursue a musical career, the tune would never have seen the light of day.
“I was in a motorbike accident and got hit by a car in 2019, it was quite a big change in my life actually,” he said.
“My left arm was paralysed for a year and a half, and although it’s slowly kinda coming back to life again I wasn’t able to play acoustic guitar for a long time, so I played synths.”
And that move towards electronica resulted in ‘Heaven,’ his fourth single in just over 12 months.
“The synths in the verses, I think they’re ethereal, and dreamlike. It’s this idea of the sweetness of staying in your head. Then the hook is harder hitting as I wanted to pull away from that dreamlike place.”
With traces of The Strokes, Gorillaz, Bloc Party, Kanye West and The Growlers littering his back catalogue, ‘Dream Eyes’ is less about fitting into genres, and more about a passion for exploring sounds.
‘Heaven’ was recorded and mixed in Sun Studios with co-producer and collaborator Kieran Lane and mastered by Chris Le Dantec of Draftlab Mastering.
