DIAZ BROTHERS make triumphant return with new long-player, ‘The World Is Yours’

THROWBACK dualling guitar heroes DIAZ BROTHERS make a welcome return with the release of ‘The World Is Yours’ (Serial Bowl Records), the long-overdue follow up to their 2020, self-titled, debut album.

Taking their name from a line in the film ‘Scarface,’ the band also unveil accompanying video for lead single, ‘By My Side.

Recorded at Sunderland’s Bunker studio by Phil Jackson, ‘The World Is Yours’ – with its clear hints of Samian, Dag Nasty, The Who, The Stooges, and The Ruts – covers many topics including mental health struggles (As I Tear), caring for a parent with dementia (Hourglass Full of Quicksand), and the façade of some of those operating within the music industry (Ego).

“Whilst the lyrics are often somewhat melancholy, we genuinely believe the world is there for everyone to make the best of it,” said guitarist, Neil Cox. “Life is too short – if you want something, then go out and get it. It’s the same principle as anyone can form a band.

“The songwriting process with Diaz is a bit more problematic than some groups as there is a huge distance between me and the rest of the band. We share ideas over WhatsApp pretty regularly and then get together every couple of months and jam them out. It just seems to work, and we gel together really well, not just as a band but as mates.

“We’ve got lives to lead but when we get together it seems to work. We’re looking forward to a few great gigs this year like MPF, a tour of Germany and the Netherlands, a crazy festival in the Welsh valleys called SlugfestCrocfest in Liverpool, and supporting Instigators at the Underworld which should be special.

“Two of us are in our 50s so there’s definitely life in us yet, but for now we’re excited for people to hear ‘The World Is Yours,’ play some gigs, and continue to meet cool people to have a pint with.”

Joining Cox in the band are, Dave Golledge (vocs), Max Hakius (bass), Callum Hewitt (drums), and Michael Jones (guitar).
