COLUMN258 – Blissed out space rock, and freak out bebop jazz.
COMPARED to Suicide, Bauhaus, Joy Division and Can, Hastings-based COLUMN258 are an experimental collective, combining spoken word, and improvisation – and who today release ‘Drop Dead,’ the first taster from debut album INTERLOPER (The Workshop Sessions Vol 1), released April 18.
Composed as a fictional soundtrack to a car chase scene in the 1974 movie ‘Gone In 60 Seconds,’ and recorded during last summer’s workshop sessions, ‘Drop Dead’ is a freewheeling, ever accelerating instrumental with a haunting cornet and dominating throbbing, bass line, laying the foundation for a modern-day Velvet Underground.
COLUMN258 play Eastbourne’s Grove Theatre on February 20 with Frank From Blue Velvet, and Thee Headshrinkers (Property of the Lost label showcase).
