Canada’s indie jangle folk outfit OCTOBERMAN unveil bittersweet reflection on aging and loss

CANADA’s indie jangle folk outfit OCTOBERMAN tease upcoming ‘Chutes’ album (Ishmalia Records), with today’s unveiling of the laid back, pensive, ‘Harry Nilsson,’ a bittersweet reflection on aging and loss.

“I had recently lost my mother, so I was hyper-aware of mortality and how things can turn on a dime,” says songwriter and Octoberman founder, Marc Morrissette. “Losing an ever-present person in your life makes you more afraid of it happening again, especially as a father and husband. In the end, it’s like losing a part of yourself that never comes back.”

The accompanying video features faux vintage footage from filmmaker and extreme skier, Nick Steers.

“I remembered a conversation with Nick about the relationship between aging and our passions,” adds Morrissette. “For him, it’s about constantly preparing your body to be able to ski down mountains at high speeds. For aging musicians, there’s a physical aspect, but I’d say the bigger challenge is psychologically navigating this ever-evolving world around us.”

Completing the Octoberman lineup are, Marshall Bureau (drums/vibraphone), Tavo Diez de Bonilla, (bass/vocals), J.J. Ipsen, (Rhodes piano/guitar), and Annelise Noronha (accordion/banjo/guitar/vocs).

The majority of Chutes was recorded direct to tape, live off the floor by Jarrett Bartlett at Ottawa’s Little Bullhorn.
