BROTHER VALIANT’s ‘Better Luck Next Time,’ songs of anxiety, hope, love, fear – and beauty
NEW JERSEY’s alt folk-pop project BROTHER VALIANT – fronted by singer-songwriter AJ Amsterdam – has just released the tender, mature, self-assured EP, ‘Better Luck Next Time.’
His influences are clear for all to hear, ranging from Paul Simon to Connor Oberst, with a hint of Dylan – Bob and Thomas – thrown in for good measure.
The seven-song collection focuses on accepting the imperfections in life, with AJ adding, “Nothing is perfect. Nobody has it all figured out one hundred percent. But at the end of the day, we should embrace the journey we are on and owe it to ourselves to find fulfilment along the way.”
It’s a highly personal, emotionally raw EP, teeming with anxiety, love, fear, hope. Single ‘C’est La Vie’ the perfect example. A dreamy indie folk track chronicling the efforts made in trying to make big changes for someone. “The premise of the song is accepting that deep down, to an extent, we are always going to have certain qualities and quirks that we cannot change about ourselves,” adds AJ.
