Brittany-based HOWLIN’ GRASSMAN Vs STOMPIN’ BIGFOOT team up with POTL for latest album release

October 1 2025

FROM Property of the Lost Records home of the mavericks and misfits, the new mail order only LP/CD release of ‘The Wild One Of The Wood Is Back In The City‘ courtesy of genius French duo, HOWLIN’ GRASSMAN Vs STOMPIN’ BIGFOOT, based out of the small Brittany seaside town, Plougastel-Daoulas.

“I first got to find Howlin’ Grassman Vs Stompin’ Bigfoot down a YouTube wormhole with the exquisitely twisted ‘I Know You Don’t Love Me,’” said POTL supremo, Karl Horton.

“Then began an irregular email exchange and a few failed attempts to bring them over here. But in the summer of ‘25 I got the message, “We’ve recorded our second album, you want to release it in UK?” So, in collaboration with France’s Teenage Hate Records, Property of the Lost is proud to help spread the words and riffs of Grassman and Bigfoot.”

The duo’s second album, ‘The Wild One Of The Wood Is Back In The City’ delivers a way out there blues stomp, accompanied by an industrial Fugazi edged wreaking ball, with more than a subtle nod to kraut electronica.

“We started as an acoustic band ten years ago,” said Etienne [Grassman], “We wanted to play old time blues, so we invented nicknames that sound like the heroes of this music. We were offered a gig in a bar, but only on the condition that we played electrified. So, we came up with the idea of a ‘two-men,’ one-man band setup, a much louder and repetitive version. And we have a special guest for a few tracks of this album, the saxophone player Florent Manneveau.”

(‘Grassman Is Howlin’ for the forthcoming ‘The Wild One Of The Wood Is Back In The City’ album)

“It was a natural choice for us to sing in English for this type of sound. We are listening to much more music with English lyrics than with French lyrics and finally it’s more natural for us to sing in English even if we’re not fluent in this language. That should be a funny thing for you, we hope you like our French accent!”
