Black Market Heart savour the ‘Dark on new album, single and video

LA-based dark alt-punk trio BLACK MARKET HEART lift the veil on new album ‘What Happens in the Dark’ along with title-track video, both released today.

The band line up with frontman/guitarist Spencer Robinson and drummer Shawn Medina – previously with seminal garage band The Lords of Altamont – and bassist Tina Brugnoletti (Auto Motives/Hot Licks).

“When writing for Black Market Heart, the ideas often come from some of the darker experiences in my life,” said Robinson. “Desperation, loss, pain. While some of that is definitely here, we also tried to expand a little into some newer territory both lyrically and musically. The thought was to keep the sound that we love so much while allowing something new to seep in.”

“The album was recorded with producer Paul Roessler, who was a member of many legendary bands like The Screamers and 45 Grave, at Kitten Robot Studios in Los Angeles.  Working with Paul was incredibly easy and smooth, and he pushed me to be a better singer and player. The vocals, which I’ve usually buried a bit behind the feedback, are a little more front and centre this time, and that’s all due to Paul’s guidance. Tina, the newest member of the band, added a ton of vocals that really beefed up the sound in an amazing way. Shawn and Tina were so locked in, and played so damn well, we just shot through the process in record time. The entire album was recorded in two days.”
