Back from cold: ELECTRIC PENGUINS return with new single today, and announce album for June

DUBLIN-based prog electronica, vintage psychedelia, alt-rockers ELECTRIC PENGUINS announce third studio album ‘The Way Lights a Fire, Pt.1’ will be released June 6 (via Bohemia Records), with lead track ‘When The World Is On Your Shoulder’ unveiled today.

And speaking of new single, Paul Murphy said, “Sometimes we follow the herd because we have no other option, we’re just too weighed down by the constant onslaught from the news of the world.  We wanted the song to have a big soundscape to represent the power of people getting together.”

Formed in 2005, Electric Penguins released debut album ‘Goodbye from the Electric Penguins’ a year later, followed by ‘II’ in 2010.

For the new long player, Murphy and Mark Cummins were assisted by Paddy Kiernan (bass), Tony Brereton (drums), and deeply missed, Barry Grace (piano).

“Some of ‘The Way Lights A Fire’ is personal, some of it is interpersonal, but ultimately, it’s universal,” added Murphy.  “Remove power from ugliness and align it with beauty, that’s the nature of music. From our point of view, it’s taking the details and putting them on the big screen. People are busy, so we wanted to make a record worthy of their listening time.”
