“An alchemy patch . . . like a distorted electric guitar” µ‑Ziq unveils his IDM sorcery
LEFT-FIELD UK musician, producer and label founder µ‑Ziq unveils his expansive remix of IDM artist Textbook Maneuver’s ‘Adrenaline Slip,’ today via Life Science Records.’
Known for work beyond the project as Mike Paradinas, µ‑Ziq is founder of the Planet Mu record label, emerging in 1993 as a premier figure within the IDM scene, and building a prolific career with aliases including Jake Slazenger, Kid Spatula, and Tusken Raiders.
“The starting point for my remix of Adrenaline Slip was the one of the stems, an Alchemy patch which sounds like a distorted electric guitar,” he said. “I processed and cut it up, adding a breakbeat and tried to make it all a bit dreamy and smeared inspired by ‘90s shoegaze bands like MBV and early Swervedriver.”
New Jersey-based composer Textbook Maneuver, a classically trained pianist with a punk heart, draws his influences from a huge range, including Rush, Gary Numan and U.N.K.L.E.
