Album ’23’ unveiled by A SEA WARREN – “Meaningful, interesting, and well-constructed”

PROLIFIC South Lanarkshire-based charismatic indie wordsmith Alan Warren – aka A SEA WARREN – releases latest album ’23,’ a diverse collection of reflective songs from the less is more school of musicianship.

“I’m pleased with the album,” he said. “The feedback I’ve received has been really good which is nice. It’s difficult when I spend so much time on a project because I lose perspective in the end, and I tend to lose faith in myself.”

(Album opener, ‘So Many Songs For You’)

Warren has been writing, recording and self-releasing music since 1997, with work on latest long player getting underway in 2022.

“I’d been studying music theory, composition and orchestration,” he adds, “and I wanted to compose a collection of meaningful, interesting and well-constructed songs that encompassed everything I had learnt up until that point.

“My partner Vicky has become a constant collaborator and her contribution to this album cannot be understated. She has consistently challenged my creative process, at times brutally, but ultimately for the better of the album. With her help I have worked tirelessly on getting the best recordings I possibly can, and I’ve paid particular attention to achieving some of my best vocal performances.”

“Song writing and recording are only half of the story. I have spent a huge amount of time researching mixing and mastering techniques to give the album a rounded and balanced sound. It’s not perfect, but what is? In a world becoming flooded with Ai music some imperfection seems fitting to me.

“I have my second orchestral suite written, but finding a symphony orchestra that would be interested is pretty much impossible. I have a good digital mock-up of it, so I may release that, and also in 2026 I plan on playing live. King Tut’s [Glasgow] have an open mic on a Saturday afternoon, so I’m starting there. See where it leads.”

Keep the faith, Al, keep the faith.
